Who we are and what we do
In Year 11 and attending a Hillingdon School?
Hillingdon Council’s Post 16 EET (Education, Employment and Training) team makes this prospectus available to you through your school and the council’s website. The advice and information provided in this prospectus is impartial, meaning it is completely unbiased. We strongly suggest you use this prospectus alongside the support you will receive from your school/college, parents/guardians and any other professional you may talk to regarding your future options.
Who can help?
If you are in Year 11 – speak to someone in the school, e.g. the school careers adviser, your head of year, your tutor etc.

In Year 11 and attending a Hillingdon School?
If you have left school and unsure what to do next, the Hillingdon Post 16 EET team can offer you some advice and guidance that may help you make decisions about your future, regarding education, employment or training.
Once you have left Year 11:
1. We are likely to contact you and your parent/carers by letter, email, phone, or SMS and on occasions home visits, to meet our statutory duties and ensure we hold updated and accurate information about you. We also work with Hillingdon schools and learning providers to obtain this information about you. We will always tell you who we are and the reason
for our contact.
2. If you are not in education, employment or training you can receive support. After finding out a bit more about you, a Post 16 EET officer will talk you through some available/suitable options for you and help you to achieve your goals into education, employment or training.
3. With your permission, we can make referrals to other organisations, this will open the door to further support and guidance for you to achieve your goals and ambitions.
What you can do to help us help you?
Keep us and your school updated of your plans and what you are doing. Respond to any letters, emails, SMS and calls we make to you. The sooner you reply to us, the less contact attempts we will make.
The legal stuff
Education and Skills Act 2008 S18 and S68(4) – This Act specifies you must participate in some form of education, employment, or training until your 18th birthday or when you have achieved the equivalent of two A Levels. As with all English local authorities, Hillingdon
Council has the responsibility to:
1. Support all Year 11 students educated in Hillingdon to have a plan for September after your GCSEs
2. Encourage all young people aged 16 to18 living in Hillingdon to be in suitable education, employment, or training placements.
3. Report to the Department for Education how many of you are participating in education, employment, or training. To get this information, we work closely with schools and colleges who inform us of who is enrolled at their provision and what they are studying.
We may also contact you for this information directly, once you have confirmed your status. We will contact the appropriate provider to confirm you are enrolled there. We also link with other local authorities across England, sharing information about our students in Hillingdon e.g. if you live in Ealing, but attend(ed) a Hillingdon school, we will let Ealing Council know whether you are continuing in education or are in a job or trainee/apprenticeship.
