Preparing for your interview

Getting ready for an interview is all about feeling confident and prepared.

Start by looking up the company so you know what they do and what they value—it’ll help you connect your answers to what they’re looking for.

Go over some common interview questions and think of examples from school, work, or activities that show your skills. Pick out an outfit that looks neat and professional, and make sure you have everything you need, like copies of your CV. Most importantly, come with a few questions to ask—it shows you’re interested and excited about the opportunity.

Before your interview

Research your chosen course(s) and schools/colleges. If you don’t do your research, they will think you are not interested.

Prepare your interview outfit. Make sure your clothes are clean and smart. They should not, however be distracting.

Practice your journey to the interview location. This will take away some of the stress of  interview day.

On the day of your interview

Arrive 10 to 15 minutes early and switch off your mobile phone.

Give a smile and maintain eye contact. Also make sure you sit up straight and give your full
attention throughout the interview.

Listen carefully to each question you are asked. If you don’t understand what is being asked, ask for it to be repeated.

Don’t chew gum.

Be enthusiastic!

Avoid making negative comments about teachers or your school.

At the end of your interview

Make sure you are clear about what happens next such as who will you hear from and when? Are you expected to do anything?

Make eye contact when the
interviewer brings the interview to a close.
